Next Week

Sat 7am: Strong NE winds to start the week. This unbalanced WX pattern may change later next week as the jet stream is forecast to return to the SE a week from now. Makes sense, it’s CLIMO and a front door proper cold front has been over-due. If another system follows mid-month it could mark a significant pattern change.

Can't beat Caribbean waves.

Can’t beat Caribbean waves.

Saturday Caribbean Life Blogger:
Yesterday I was bagging on PR pretty hard. I’ve got to remember PR is not one of the 50 US states and probably never will be. Living in NW PR is super cool almost all of the time. After my rant, a little swell came up and I surfed a thigh high left at Domes pretty much by myself on the 7’4 and had a blast. Then I paddled around the lighthouse to Indy and caught a couple down there with noone around. Then I went to a secret beach on the south side of Rincon and spent some time fishing with a brother from my congregation. We did not catch much but the beauty was astounding. Coconut palm lined empty shoreline with mountains right behind the beach. Living here is like living in Hawaii but a lot closer and cheaper with really good latin food. It’s like living in the Virgin Islands but with a little more convenience. In general people here are really friendly and super laid back and take time to talk. My friend from Brazil called it a “laid back hippy town”. What I like the most about yesterday was the solitude. Humans need occasional solitude for the soul. I’m also super stoked on growing my own food. Because food is expensive here, money harder to come by, no Publix for 1100 miles it makes growing your own food a important option and everything grows great here. So I’m stoked living where I am and have no plans for change. If you have a dream formulate a plan and go for it. There really is life on the other side…

Costa Rica
has been a favorite destination for surfers for decades. Easy access to perfect surf, friendly locals, natural beauty and amazing tropical wildlife are all easily available. Uvita is one of the up and coming areas in SW Costa Rica. It is desirable due to it’s close proximity to the consistent waves of Playa Dominical and it’s an easy striking distance to Pavones, one of the world’s longest, funnest lefts. Casa Uvita features comfort in new construction minutes from the surf breaks of Dominical with an awesome view of the whales tale. Check into Casa Uvita for your next Costa Rica surf trip. South of Venice was really fun from daylight until about 1pm. Waist occasionally stomach..Dropped to thigh after the tide starting to go out.

  2. DW

Funny how the waves were so much better at some spots than other. Per the pics on Gulfster it looked knee to thigh at best for Pinellas and Manatee counties but waist to occ. chest in Sarasota and Lee counties. I wonder how SKP was Monday…anybody know? Of course the internet photos are from the best spots, time and tide and we all know that can be very misleading. As example the daily Gulfster pics from RC’s last Sunday look really great. I was over there last weekend and it was fun for sure but not as good as the still frames made it look. That all said I took out my LB for an hour Monday morning before work and had a blast Got to surf three days straight after not surfin’ for weeks so no complaints here. 🙂

I had a few friends that surfed SKP DW and they said it was waist high and fun …

It was a hard N angled swell so only the N beaches picked up the juice … and I am really surprised that it was as big as it was at those spots considering that there was a NE component in the water in the morning …

    N. Pinellas was about as fun as the other recent swells have been. When will we be getting the standard winter waist high 5.5ft at 6 seconds? I could use some of that on a daily basis.

I now, officially, own a longboard. A friend gave my an older Innerlight longboard. It needs a few dings repaired, from neglect at where it was stored. Can’t wait to get it water tight and out in some waves. It is kind of narrow, and has some rocker to it, so i am assuming it is shaped towards performance. She also gave me a 6’6″ Natural Art, with glass-on fins, shaped by Rich Price from the 90’s. They had been stored in a garage for 5 years, and she doesn’t surf at all anymore. My quiver is pretty damn complete now. I have 7 shortboards, 3 fish, a longboard, and a SUP. Still feel like I might need another board or two soon LOL

Russ !!! you are going to love that board….. I too scored A.nother Board this weekend thanks to a garage clean-out…. a Sweeeet 8ftr – and narrow (my LB is 9 and change) New board needs a little ding repair, but still quite a score … so looking forward to playing with a new stick. Russ, that 6’6″ with glass in fins!!!!!!!! That was a SCORE ! Now on the wall rack – 2 longboards plus my son’s WillieB longboard, a fish and a shortboard I look at. Some girls like baubles…. I LOVE boards. Of course I am still longing for that GUN that is waiting for me in Puerto Viejo
Looks like I’m early for the Wednesday forecast – checking back later.

Nice Morning Read Micah – Paradise isn’t easy… but Mother Nature rewards in other ways <3
FYI for those sensitive to Red Tide – it's around : (((
" In Southwest Florida, K. brevis was detected in medium concentrations in 3 samples collected in and alongshore of Pinellas County; low to high concentrations in 10 samples collected in and alongshore of Manatee County; very low to high concentrations in 25 samples collected in and alongshore of Sarasota County"
Forecasts by the USF-FWC Collaboration for Prediction of Red Tides show little net movement of bloom waters over the next three days.
