Thursday 30% WFL Update: 1ft leftovers this am as 93L moves toward LA not doing much and barely in the gulf… I got reports of fun surf yesterday afternoon. Choppy sloppy but some sections: “I got in and it was actually kind of fun. Better than it looked! Some fun ones would roll in amongst the mess every few minutes” …I’m glad you got some! Not much coming but elevated SE and SSE flow overnight in the Keys could put a knee high log wave at best south facer tomorrow only. If you need a log wave to wash away the week, 2pm low tide. Then the weekend looks 1ft/calm. Future: By the middle of next week the GFS shows a pattern repeat with more low pressure stuck in the NE gulf. Stay tuned for more on this and the possibility of more significant rain/surf middle of next week.
Tuesday WFL 7am: Pretty cool to see the spin of that wave pushing into Cape Canaveral this am. It will be in the gulf by tomorrow. The NHC is stoked on it more than the models are. Why don’t they develop it? Are they not reading it right? Could a TD form in the gulf tomorrow? Best time to look for surf is tomorrow PM. My call is local south waves in the 2ft range Wed PM, possibly lasting into Thursday and an eventual TS moving into LA late Thursday.
Monday 7/14 WFL: No hype at all with this one. I call it super local bc the wind and waves will be right next to the coast, coming from very close with wave periods around 5 seconds, 3-4ft height at the peak. Best time to look for a wave would be late Wednesday with breezy south winds and storms moving in. By Thursday am it is forecast to be on the fade already. If the storm was to develop on the gulf then it could be more surf but both model camps do not show the low developing much. Right now the window of surf looks to be late Wednesday with small leftovers on Thursday. I hope you get to surf!
Sunday 7/13 WFL Weekly WX Synopsis: Low pressure moving from the ATL to the gulf will make for stormy WX and eventually a small south wind swell. The whole surf forecast depends on the strength of this low when it’s in the gulf Wednesday am. The way it lines up it’s going to be best south swell spots only…

Details by Diaco updated for 7/13 This forecast is for best south swell spots.
Monday July 14: Flat to start and then 1ft/knee high late day from the NW.
Tuesday July 15: 1ft waves.
Wednesday July 16: 1ft waves to start then building to 1-2ft South wind waves, south winds at 15.
Thursday July 17 1ft South wind waves, SSE winds at 15.
Friday July 18: South waves, 1ft or less…

there were a few knee to waist range clean swell lines at a local s spot. outside sandbar is shallow tho there is a trough of doom situation present–skim was rly fun as a result. relatively consistent then slowed down and dropped a bit late am…
Yeah HD, my last surfs after the new year was on the northside of the skyway and my couple of spots I go between, depending, is real troughy. Big up and down lumps everywhere outside causing the swells to separate and piece off… Time heals,,,, I guess.
Gonna head back out. Get it while it’s hot. Did the call in. Lol
thnks for the reports, wed am and theres still waves
Theres some super fun long runners, where I’m at down south. The wind is currently lightish north mayhe ne. Eventually that north wind will get it.
Probably already is in north pine.
Micah, stay positive and thanks for all you do!
this was a consistent winter but as ive said in years past. we dont seem to get any more sizeable pre frontal suck up south swells and are good for only 1 or 2 maxed out fronts. no solid clean up days really either only 1 or 2 . beats not surfing… long flat summer ahead….
go on a surf trip
I had to look up what a Wound Wick was. Sounds like a skill in wound care we should know. I’m glad your head into coral didn’t get you worse than it did.
We had a couple clean days but I my schedule didn’t line up with anything over waist high the whole season. Not complaining just my experience. Now I’m planning to fix a few neglected boards from the past few seasons.
Hey guys I’m at an Airbnb in Naples Italy and I can’t hook up to the WiFi so sorry for the lack of updates….heading to Umbria late week so maybe the next place will have better WiFi
Good call Micah. A certain not so secret spot in Pinellas was super fun late afternoon into the evening. Clean thigh-waist long lines for a while, and still pretty fun even after the wind picked up.
never got around to pulling the trigger yesterday but i got some sleep…prob gonna take off today…first buoy ping touching 5ft in forever and for forever…
South of Tampa bay was fun until sunset. Wind wasn’t too bad at all.
Cams looking interesting down here in-betweenthe rain despite buoys looking meh. Gonna grab the log and take a peek.
Eyes on the prize feet in the sand (actually in the truck waiting out the Lightning) South of the bay and there’s a lil 2-3ft wave coming from the South dumping thigh-waist on the mid-inside sandbar. I’m out there once this rumbly squall passes ????
it was rideable/manueverable on the fish and semi fun for an hour or so then the tide fattened it up locally and swell faded. skim was rly fun. trough of doom still a factor but its a smaller swell..beats work… basically our first tropical depression..cheerz..
thanks for all the reports guys… part of the system dragged over the gulf but the center spent a lot of time near LA so not really a tropical system but hopefully a summer with monthly waves.
We visited our daughter up in Apalachicola last weekend and I surfed St George Island on Sunday. The Panhandle gets more size on a south windswells than WFL, plus it was closer to that low near LA. The wind calmed down some and the surf was Chest+ but still choppy. It was fun for me before and after our Mother’s Day outing! 🙂
stoked! any sharks? that island spooked me ????
Haha, 🙂 yeah I did 2 one hour long solos sessions. Despite being Mother’s Day there were very few people on the beach due to the overcast skies. My head was on a swivel and I was thinking bull sharks, bull sharks both times.
