We followed up a solid week of surfing Gulf Side by making it over to the EC for the 2nd annual Aura Camp Trip. We had a great weekend. The surf was solid and got bigger each day. It was a bit choppy, but fun with lots of juice. The NSSA Nationals had rolled into Sebastian Inlet so there were plenty of hot rats to watch rip and lots of surf industry people to meet. It was good to hang with old friends and meet some new. Frieda Zamba was camping next to us and Kevin Welsh was just down the way. We got together around the campfire to talk story. To hear Kevin and Frieda give their takes on the islands of the Caribe was really cool and got our spirit of adventure going again. Kevin had just finished his video "Synergy" which has a lot of Caribbean action in it. Along with footage of massive Hawaii and EC tow ats, this video is awesome! Aaron Chang's Sisters of the Sea were also staying at the campground and on Saturday Night they had an incredible slide show. Aaron showed up with slides featuring women's surfing from the last 20 years. He had some great slides of the Hawaiian Queen of surfing Rell Sunn, who passed away after a long fight with cancer. It was powerful. At the end of the slide presentation he said "The point is: Women can surf!" It was really cool. We packed up and got one last surf in before the drive back. What a way to finish 7 days in a row of surfing. That's going to have to hold us through the Gulf Coast flatspells.
