Cory Lopez, fresh off his 3rd place at the Pipe Masters was headed home after the morning sesh with his brother Shea, Alek Parker
Aaron Cormican and others. He stopped at one last spot to check the waves and after seeing surf too good to pass up
he paddled out and tore it to pieces.12/27/06 Year End West swell

Like 10 years ago Steve Barilotti an assistant editor for Surfer magazine did a story about the Lopez brothers.
It was called "You must beat your brother" or something to that effect. Barilotti trashed the gulf coast to the world
saying our waves were brown, windy garbage and not the tropical, torquoise, chest high barrels he had imagined.
The phrase: "Chest high barrels" became a manifesto for us and look at this Mr. Barilotti, your were wrong.

Helicopter 360 air and he surfed away from it.

Alek out of the barrel and into the cutback.

One of the best frontside carves in the buisness.

Alek Parker was dragging out the barrels so long and deep. Instead of rushing through them
he would stall and stay in as long as he could. Here he is applying heavy brake.

Beautiful day.
