Thursday 7/16/26 WFL Weekly Wave WX Updated Below 7am:

Need an attorney that understands you? Check in with Scott.

Thursday 7/16 WFL 7am Report: High pressure anchors near Louisiana. Weak low pressure is in the NE gulf making for light to occ moderate NW winds for the weekend. The surf forecast is more of the same. Knee high log waves on the right time and tide all weekend. Maybe a little more SW flow by Monday PM, check back on that. As for 20% the satellite is pretty clear as of Thursday am. It could develop tomorrow and Saturday but none of the models show that happening now and it’s only 48hrs out so unfortunately it doesn’t look like its going to happen IMO… but if it did that would be really cool bc it would mean more surf and more wind but not looking good for development at the moment. Next update Friday.

Kids grow up too fast!!

Julie. She’s 21 now and lives in St Pete! She was here like 4yrs old surfing in 6″ of water inside the inlet at PAG. I took them surfing here a lot at low tide before dark the sand bar was so shallow a 1/2ft wave was rideable for them. How is it now?

Cassia headed out at PAG while Nonno watches on. RIP, he passed 2/1/22. She was like 10 or 12 in this photo and really into surfing at this point. She lives in NE St Pete now, a few blocks from where she was born 🙂

Details by Diaco updated 7/1 Next Chance to Get Wet: Nothing solid… Hoping for low pressure in the gulf next week.

I surfed SI yesterday for the first time in 20 years! Pretty fun, got chest high and side off by the time I was finishing up. Still a fun wave and you can see great potential for ESE trade swell when it’s got juice. There was a fun right coming off the side of the sets that were closing out parallel to the jetty so, weird from that direction but surprisingly fun.
My first SI/east coast run in many years-
Pro: That wave has juice even when it’s small. Con: There was road construction on I-4 and 192 the entire way. The drive Sunday PM was easy, Monday not so much.

Surf was up at S Key most of the day yesterday then faded in late afternoon, we’ll take it for June!

1.3 8 second buoy pings from sw with light onshore winds. juicy at the right place with the right approach…

thanks HD! that ping should be a little stronger this week. Keep an eye on it Thursday thru Friday.

judging by the cam it looks like TOD (trough of doom) still reigns supreme over the local south facing zoo…it was setup great for a minute last fall after the “restoration.” that said, when you dont have real sand in place and instead just dump offshore bottom gunk onto dry land it will never stay in place…

    1. FF

Correct, TOD in full effect at Pinellas ZOO. However, tonight’s wind swell was enough to bring out all of the zoo animals with every friend and piece of equipment thought of. To be fair it was breaking and surfable, but I would hate to see what happens when a real named storm spins in Gulf and SL puts stars on the forecast dates. when that happens its time to go to hunting for unknown sandbars… It is the Gulf, so still stoked to get wet in late June and it was muy caliente today!

Egmont buoy was showing 3ft @ 7secs Friday late afternoon. Found some good log waves at Sunset Friday evening. Had a great time with my daughters for some Father’s Day weekend surf!

It feels like we are in for dark times here south of the skyway. Two of the SRQ county breaks I surfed at regularly this winter were in great shape, now one has been dredged and the other is way out of whack (some strange ocean dynamics going on).

More dredging is planned at the southern jetties and Manatee county beaches for later this year. It feels more deflating than usual being a surfer on this coast lol. The last couple swells I’ve had to get creative to find a wave, which is fine, but I’m running out of convenient options.

Anyone else feeling this? Seems like recent commenters have found fun waves.

Bummer man… I used to surf down by Sharkies but I guess the sands no good there… Try driving up to AMI sand looks ok there… anybody else know where some good bars are? not spot naming but area… thanks!

      1. 2Bytes

Yep I think the AMI and Bradenton Beach bars are descent right now. Once the dredging starts in November, all bets are off. A lot of unknowns coming into an el nino winter.

After seeing your Wed morning Insta story about the tiny patch of wind and the potential for a 1ft wind chop line in Pinellas I decided to test it out in the evening – was surprisingly fun. I was able to sneak in a few 10s rides on the log and was the only one out, 89° water felt like a hot bath.

Sadly not south of the Skyway for 2Bytes, but the sand here seems to be in an ideal spot for the time being. Last week’s south swell and this baby NE windswell both had breaking waves at the same spot. Great to be in the water in June.

damn that makes me happy! I actually got to Surf yesterday for the first time in weeks. I had a photo shoot for the Surf school and it turns out there was a little knee almost thigh high perfect line. I did not have a surfboard with me but my buddy Nico let me borrow one of his long boards and I had such a blast. I’ve been dreaming about surfing. I’ve been missing it so bad.

definitely seeing the classic upper level low shape forming on the goes satellite loop…big time rain on the coast early…

S Key was decent this morning into lunch time with atleast an hour of clean waves in the knee high (maybe slightly bigger here and there) on the incoming. you could see that low moving all around us too, crazy looking weather.
