Wednesday 7am 2/10/21 WFL Surf WX: Froggy and flat this am… Looking at the models this am the S winds between now and Friday night are not very strong at all. So small chances Friday PM and probably not much. Sunday looks to the be the best chance at waves. Remember last weekend when we had a small SW swell and the wind went offshore? It looks like a complete repeat of that so whatever worked for you last week could work again this Sunday. Try and surf Sunday. Hopefully it blows 20 and up N of Cuba and not 15knts so there is more of a wave Sunday. Have a great week.

Tuesday 7am WFL Surf WX updater: The GOMEX to Stay Unsettled. After an epic hurricane season and an amazing early winter- The gulf now becomes the battle ground for the nations WX east of the Plains. Strong high pressure is north of PR in the middle ATL. The highs influence ends in the middle gulf where weak lows will try and form and move NE thru the next week to 10 days. There will be plenty of opps for small south and SW surf and a solid cold front at some point. Look for a 1ft south swell tomorrow, bigger on the day after and Friday most likely getting rideable. Sunday is more of a sure bet with SW waves thigh plus like last weekend. Heads up/Best Bet: Models show gusty south winds near the Yucatan/Cuba on Saturday. If this happens Sunday could be the best time to surf. Another surf story/update from PR is way below.
Wed calm/1ft southy
Thursday 1ft south wave
Friday knee to thigh south wind waves at best south facers
Sat: 1ft south swell
Sunday: Knee to waist high SW swell with south winds going N.
Monday: Waist high cold front surf with N winds
Past Monday another low is forecast to form in the western gulf.

The 40’s aren’t bad!

The Roaring 40’s- Everyone talked about Old Man Tom being 43- 43 is the new 33. We as surfers know that if you take care of yourself and don’t get injured you can actually be at your best in your 40’s. Look at Kelly! Look at Cory… There is no surprise that athletes in their 40’s can excel. Hopefully everything goes good in the off-season and we get to watch Tom on Sunday in 2021 also. Never been a better Bucs QB… I felt like he came into this season angry and with a chip on his shoulder and that happened again at the end of the 2nd quarter last night- he took the game over and then Tampa’s defense finished it! So epic, what a story! So surfers next time you hear about ‘Old Man Brady’ just know 44 is great and better than ever so even in your 40’s you can excel like never before in your lifetime! If your in your 40’s it’s time to take care of yourself- physically, emotionally and spiritually. Be the best 40 something you can be, surf, dad, husband- whatever. Life is awesome and we want to keep doing what we love as long as we can!
Super Bowl Week Surf WX Outlook:
Thursday: Calm.
Friday: Knee to thigh SW windswell PM.
SaturdayKnee to thigh WSW swell, ENE winds.
Sunday Knee to waist high PM SW wind-swell with SW winds…. BUCS WIN!!!!
Monday day after knee high glassy best spots on incoming…

Cory ripping into his 40’s. Photo: M Weaver.

Kelly surfing smarter than ever in his 40’s.

Hector Santamaria- Photo: Julieta Bliss. Could you be this guy? Yes, this wave is fast and heavy but all you need is a good board and more than anything else- balls. You paddle super hard get in early and set your rail. This wave does not close out, so sick…

Surf Story: Surfline ran this shot of Hector Santamaria and credited me but I was on the shoulder out of the frame for this one. This is Julie’s shot. She has been nailing all the important ones. Gnarly Charly had us shooting him and he got 1 turn he wanted so bad. I was out surfing with him and walking up the beach together he was asking me about it. I was so stoked when we opened the can and found Julie had nailed the shot. She’s getting good at it!
Hector is the coolest cat- He was touching the roof of the tube and going Big Z looking back into the barrel on every wave. Then he’s giving away waves and hooting at guys and flashing me peace signs from the shoulder. Nothing but good vibes! So stoked on Hector’s trip and everyone loves him and respects him for it (so try that next time your out at SVJ in a crowd of 100). he is so pro he could take every wave but he doesn’t… He’s famous for some kick flip skateboard move they claim he did 1st in surfing but he’s a great barrel rider. This was maybe the biggest set of the day and Hector was in the perfect spot to catch it(surfing karma). All the other tubes you had to crouch for and this was the only real stand-up barrel I saw in the 3 hours I was out there… After living in PR for 10yrs you get jaded but this wave, this spot is so special and I’m going to target it the rest of the winter. All the best scores seem to happen in February.
NW PR Updater: That being said Rincon is packed right now hard to find places to stay and rental cars I’ve heard… It’s like everyone is down here escaping the cold winter. Lots of people tenting on the beach- the WX is perfect!

Pretty fun in Sarasota this afternoon, waist high and wind not a problem. Still can’t find my booties 😫

  2. RUSS-D

The Zoo was kind of fun on my fat Fish this afternoon. Occasionally a couple would come in and line up for a ride. I could really see it wanting to do something good but not quite being able to. Still, a fun way to spend a few hours on a Tuesday afternoon. 🏄‍♂️😁🤙

Got this report on Tuesday… Surfed a fun ****** wave today late afternoon, clean stomach high runners..

  4. greg

Heh…you crack me up! I like the the frothy version for sure. Like seeing the personality come through and the pure joy that good surf can bring. Also…it tends to have more details. I always read your report before the other main stream sites. Will hit you with another donation soon.

  5. Brees

That kicker doesnt have any toes dude what the ****?!?!? Haha literally booting that shit with a steel toe boot 63 yards

  6. Brees

Its gonna be breezy this weekend. Go drew brees bucs bandwagon is annoying. Been here my whole life but its not the same with all this money added to boost a super team.

  7. baytopper

LOL…like beer and cappuccino…better with a little froth! Gonna need all the motivation I can get if the gulf drops below 60 degrees 🙂

  8. Fuggin

I’ve got a fever and the only prescription is MORE FROTH! Your Gulf forecast passion and good vibes keep me stoked and on my scheduling game. I’m a Jags fan but go Bucs! Even though I think they are underdogs they have a good chance of pulling it off.

  9. Ericito

Frothy froth! Bout to hop in and get it started! Lil south showing up at the jetty wedge! Keep it stoked, if your stoked!

MW you’ll dig this, happened in your old backyard. I noticed the wind slack mid morning at home in Seminole so quick ck’d the buoys and cams and ran down to the Indian/Redington Shores line. Scored from 10:30 till almost noon. Easy chest to shoulder sets, lightest wind, clean and powerful. Then wind immediately picked up NW 20k+ and that was that, blown to pieces. There was some solid swell out there for that spot to light the way it did. Tomorrow may shine too, hoping for a repeat. 🙂

  11. Ericito

Dude this super light wind in pinellas this morning was primo! Now its gale! How did that happen?

  12. RUSS-D

OMG, The Zoo was super fun this morning until low tide fully set in. I then drove south down Gulf Blvd to the other crowded spot. It was really fun until that wind cranked up. I think this is the longest time in the water surfing, for me, in over a year. I hope my shoulder doesn’t start barking at me later. I get an MRI on Tuesday to see how bad it is(still messed up from that mountain bike crash back in Sept. 2020.

  13. Fuggin

I wasn’t able to get away from work until this afternoon when it was choppy but still fun with solid swell under it all. Speaking of solid swell anyone watching the surfline XXL stream? Out of control! Meanwhile our buoys are now pinging @10 seconds yewww! I have roughly 45 minutes of light before I have to superman out of my wetsuit(still can’t find my booties) and jet to work. I hope everyone scores tomorrow, it’s looking good 🤙

  14. RUSS-D

This morning was a little smaller but still a lot of fun at The Zoo. Wedgy fun barrels really early. And then, as the tide dropped, it got harder to make some of them. But occasionally one would come in and make it worth the wait. I hope y’all got some good waves today. It looks like it is still rideable on most of the cams.

  15. DW

Ditto Russ, 2021 of to a great start for us gulfsters! On pace to match 2020? After quite the session in Indian Shs. yesterday before the wind, I took the trip south today to meet an ol’ buddy from Tampa and surf a spot in AMI N of the piers. While not as big as yesterday was tons o’ fun! 🙂
And props to those who scored ****y’s today. Back in the day MW shot some cool pics from the pier of my son when he was just a lil’ grom and now he’s 29! That wave is timeless and yes, let the hordes stay at the jetty. As Steve Miller sang…”Time keeps on slipin’ slipin’ into the future…”

  16. RUSS-D

WOW, ****y’s looked fun. I haven’t surfed there since that one “Mysto Swell” a few years ago. I surfed it with Paul D. that ran the Gulf Surf Forum. The barrels were so fast they were almost impossible to get into them. But when you did it was speedy and fun.

  17. Joey

Fun sesh Sunday morning! Perfect conditions for that spot. Dead wind and zero drift, the only thing that woulda made it better is if I was good at going switch. A lotta mini kegs out there but you know what they say,” if you came out you weren’t deep enough” haha. Tell your friends there’s more shots of em coming soon, it was nice meeting em

  18. jack

um, there was in fact a wave today. the sets would come in groups and there was a freak thigh wave or two. fun knee high *lines* aplenty

  19. admin Post author

Yah a buddy of mine found some waves in st Pete today also stoked! Thanks for the report

  20. evelyn

Full Moon and a ShutterBanger wind this morning……super low tide – Wind SRQ gusts 25 — Lady Gulf is Cranking… I can hear her waves

  21. Ericito

TI got realllll fun this morning. If you picked the right one at least. Current was ripping, but some little slabbers for sure ! Glad I paddled out, it didn’t look very good but I ended up having a blast!

  22. Fuggin

I had a fun quick sesh today around 330-430 solid waist high sets and semi clean working on the mid to inside sandbars. I would of stayed longer if I could of but I got quite a few fun waves to stand up for me with not too much waiting between sets. I have a little time early tomorrow so I’m hoping this spills over for a nice DP sesh 🤙

  23. baytopper

Can someone who is buddies with Joey please tell him to stop calling out other spots? I don’t begrudge anybody making a living but bad enough we have a site dedicated to the jetties and that becomes more and more of a zoo every day…we really don’t need people crowding our other spots as well. Not trying to be bitter but recently he has called out two spots that I know few people go to and some didn’t even know it broke there until he mentioned it on his site. Thanks.

  24. Fuggin

I had a great time at the aforementioned called out spot today. I rarely surf there(Hurricane Charlie was the last time) but have seen it looking fun on the cams this winter which drew me out there today. I surfed by myself for 2hrs early this am in the 20kt drift. Head high open rights and quite cold. Don’t sleep in tomorrow, there’s a few spots that will shine if that hi res surfline wind model is right about a due North wind early 🤙

  25. Nelson

Hey Baytopper, I can’t say I don’t agree but it’s not going away. That’s just fact, like it or not.

I just pulled this from the worlds premier surf forecasting site. Just type “Venice FL Surf Spots” into Google. I’d say you are less likely to find Venice Jetty.com than you are to find Surfline.

Welcome to Surfline’s Venice Surf Reports and Surf Cams — the most comprehensive Venice surf reports and surf cams site on the Internet.

A quiet beach town in Sarasota County, Florida, Venice enjoys a few decent surf areas. The main focal point is the Venice Pier, but the the North and South Jetties also can offer some playful peaks.

  26. Fuggin

I got a couple hours in early before work today, not as clean as I hoped but the wind was North and light enough and the swell still had some juice left for a shortboard. We got quite a bit of erosion on this event, I think we lost >15% or our recent “renourishment”. Also, the water has chilled off significantly 🧊

  27. Ericito

Fun waves yesterday and today! South pinellas was on surpisingly! Nothing epic, but not bad at all!

  28. Fuggin

Right on Ericito! Your comment got me to make the drive out and there’s a choppy lil knee to thigh wind wave out there from the south… LB worthy so I’m going in…Schwing! 🤙

  29. baytopper

Buoy didn’t look too promising this morning but managed to get on a sandbar with some fun thigh high slow rollers.

  30. Ericito

Fun city this morning! Surfed my little rocky spot right next to where espn is broadcasting! It was actually firing for a couple hours! Barrels airs and wedges! Suprised me! Funny little session in between the fronts I guess! Go bucs!

  31. baytopper

Was fun for a little while after the front went through this morning and before the wind kicked up. I am rooting for the Bucs but definitely a lot of respect for Mahomes.

  32. Tcure

What a day! Surfed a fun session with Caloosa in the backyard and got to watch the Bucs win. The D stepped up big time and Brady did his goat things

  33. admin Post author

yeah st pete beach looked fun like real waves on the nfl broadcast… congrats everyone! TB took over at the end of the 1st half and the defense was awesome! Party!

All alone at the zoo for a couple hours late afternoon. Small but pretty fun. Two more guys showed up right around 5:30 just as I was leaving. Love what you said about staying fit into the 40’s. I turned 55 this year and am still doing everything I did in my younger days. It is all about how you take care of your health. Stretch, stay active, eat well…
