The February Doorstep Low Pressure

So February turned out not too bad. Stoked…

Saturday PM Updater: Look for knee high surf at the best spots on Sunday, best mid morning maybe a small window when it is rideable. The dp is going to be tiny. Captiva may get thigh high. Another front later in the week check back.

Site Note: Sorry for the flakiness. Ive been splitting time between St Pete and Seminole w or w/o my computer. Getting ready to go back to PR. It was super fun to hang with everyone. Thanks for the love GC. Sorry if we didn’t get to hang out. Probably be back in a few months again now with the care of my aging father in law.

Friday 2/24 11am WFL Surf Forecast: Good Morning GC. Hope you got some yesterday. That was super fun. Today is back to 1ft or less and calm. A front will pass Saturday night. It is fully backdoor now and so Sunday looks knee high or less. Maybe the very best spots down south could have a small rideable wave on Sunday but it looks tiny. A small south line is possible late Monday or Tuesday but not much more than 1ft for the skim boarders. Another front is forecast to pass later next week so check back. Have a great weekend.

Gulf Coast Surf Experience:

Back on the GC:
I love my life in PR but it’s so cool to visit and meet up with old friends for a surf. We got some pumping barrels for a bit at a spot I surfed in the 80’s. John, TC and Andy and everybody was surfing really good. Lots of memories came flooding back so for me it was a nostalgia filled session. The wind got on it and then died again but we left and went to another spot. The the wind went offshore and the sun came out. I was trunking it in February so that was super fun. Very pretty afternoon.

Spot 2 and a beautiful afternoon.

More from Thursday am:

Andy Malloy shreds.

John Purdy has the perfect barrel stance.

TC in the slot.

Most epic SB ever in my memory. Wow my call was so close, buddies were texting me thru the 1st 3 quarters telling me how wrong I was (and I agreed with them at that point). Definitely an entertaining game

  2. higgy baby

wow best SB game ever, i almost turned it off in the 3rd but the commercial’s kept me interested, Tom Brady is the Kelly Slater of quarterbacks lol. now football is over time to surf

MOnday morning I am having a “blue light” treatment done to my face. It is to remove “suspicious” looking spots on my face, from sun damage. This will put me out of the water for about 2 weeks, and I am SURE there will be really good waves in that time HA HA. You are all welcome, for my sacrifice. LOL I am hoping to get a few waves tonight, as it may be my last chance for a couple of weeks.

Fantastic Super Bowl but not my desired results! ๐Ÿ™

Russ – how you do in the Brevard ESA contest Sunday? For us it was really fun from 8:30 till noon at the park just north of the Pineda Cswy. MW sez SK may be worth a shot tonite, so maybe it will come up. ๐Ÿ™‚

I took 5th out of 6 in the final. Waves were super fun after a little morning sickness went away. But by the time my final came around wind was on it. But the inside was kind of fun, for short, quick rides. At the awards the said our final had the closest scores of any heat. We all scored good rides in it. ๐Ÿ™‚ ๐Ÿ˜€

Surfed sunset today like 2 -530 & it was fun Lil thigh to waist sets. Saw maybe five rib high drops the waves were lining up nice but the bars at sunset have gotten funky from that extreme swell event in January. Maybe a wave tomorrow? Took the lb out for a 45 minute Sescion at spb too around 1030 this morning. South of the pass was clean all day but also smaller, but really fun long rights bag to bag. Not sb waves though. Cheers guy love to you all!

The zoo was fun yesterday biggest sets were chest high. It was best around 4:30pm. Two things surprised me. One the water was finally a green color, and the second was how consistent it was. Rapid fire. Maybe the interval being so short. A pleasant surprise! Thanks for the heads up! ???

Stoked y’all are going to get some fun swell. Bummed because I can’t even come out to shoot pics of it. ๐Ÿ™ I had a dermabrasion treatment done yesterday, and my face feels like it has the worst sunburn EVER. They usually only leave the chemical on for 30 minutes, this is my 4th one of these, but this time they left it on for an hour. That makes a huge difference in how the blue light treatment part of it affects your skin. As surfers we put our skin out there in the sun, and elements far too often, even with sunblock on. And me being a pale , white, Sweed/Irish person, I probably should just always hide from the sun. But I love surfing, biking, just being outdoors. ๐Ÿ™‚ I highly recommend, if you don’t already, go to see a Dermotologist for a body scan. catching skin cancer early, is key to preventing huge problems later. I have already, also, had a quarter size chunk cut out of my arm a few years ago. It wasn’t fun in any way.

1 pm update from South Pinellas … not much happening … 1′ slop a chop that looks as unappetizing as baby food mixed in with baby drool on a high chair tray … (get the visual?)

Fun chest high waves this am with light sideshore wind in srq. Around 11 the wind turned more onshore but plenty of size out there for the late takers. Off to work, have fun guys and gals!

The redtide is Venice was horrible today. I hope Sarasota county gets the sewage problems fixed. To have this bad of redtide in the winter time is ridiculous.

Glad that some of you guys got it. Pics looked insane. I really need to hit lottery or something. Micah … I’m REALLY hoping that we get waves this weekend. I’m looking forward to surfing Sunday.

  14. Ericito

I honestly wasn’t bothered by the red tide in Venice the other day. I surfed like 4 1/2 hours and had a lil cough here or there, but def not enough to make me get out or even complain. Idk I guess I’ve built up a resistance or something I don’t get it.

  15. fbc

i agree E, I had minor red tide inconvenience, the swell juice outweighed the red tide effects, I fear the man-made toxins in the water more than the natural ones

MW are you in town? i kind of thought you hinted at being around this week! if you are we should def get a sesssion! let me know and ill drop my # in your insta!

Finally made it to the East Coast on a great day. We stopped, and surfed 8th st first, a friend was meeting us there and had already paddled out. It was fun for a short time, and then turned into a really good looking longboard wave. We then went into Satellite and SCORED at Hightower Park. At one point I scored a fairly long backside barrel, and then did a chip shot entry, bottom turned with a bit of stall, and then leaned forward under a lipp, and sped out to the face. A quick drive through frontside barrel to a fun turn. I was having the time of my life out there. Then we ate a late lunch, and I felt like I was DONE. Decided to head home, but wanted to take a quick look at the waves again. We checked the Boardwalk, and DAMN if it wasn’t pretty empty, and still firing glassy A-frames of turquoise water. Went out for another 2 hours of fun lines in both directions. I was so stoked that I was wide awake until midnight last night. ๐Ÿ˜€
