Weekly Outlook

Tuesday am.

Tuesday 7am for WFL: In the near term high pressure will dominate keeping the winds out of the east with flat conditions. Elevated trade flow makes for nice late summer WX in FL and good beach fishing with rain chances increasing as this week rolls on. So nice WX but no surf. For some reason the GFS is just completely sold on low pressure emerging from the Yucatan early next week. So what we have to figure out is why? and is the GFS on drugs and out to lunch on this? The GFS tends to spin after 5 days so it could be onto something or it could be making something happen where it’s not. Looking at this am’s satellite the elevated trades north of Venezuela in the Caribbean pile up clouds near Panama. This energy piling up in the western Caribbean eventually pulls N and strengthens. I can see it happening it’s totally CLIMO but why now? This has happened all summer and normally the energy goes right out into the Pacific and forms and send surf all over the Pacific. That’s what has been happening since May. This is the first time the energy gets pulled N and heads into the WFL window. So if it happens and I say 50/50 it would be a def pattern change.

We had a great weekend in Vieques. I’ll be back later with a little write up…

Costa Rica
has been a favorite destination for surfers for decades. Easy access to perfect surf, friendly locals, natural beauty and amazing tropical wildlife are all easily available. Uvita is one of the up and coming areas in SW Costa Rica. It is desirable due to it’s close proximity to the consistent waves of Playa Dominical and it’s an easy striking distance to Pavones, one of the world’s longest, funnest lefts. Casa Uvita features comfort in new construction minutes from the surf breaks of Dominical with an awesome view of the whales tale. Check into Casa Uvita for your next Costa Rica surf trip. Click the Casa Uvita image for VRBO and contact info.

Sure did enjoy that short period swell on Tuesday. Wave, after wave, after wave, after wave, all right around thigh high during that evening outgoing. I was surprised at how many SUPs were in the lineup, but as always, stoked on the froth. Let’s get fired up and hope something fires up, so we can fire it up.

So stoked to see the ladies surf when tressles was at its best, can’t wait for the swell to be gone on Saturday and the men’s finals are held in small conditions. That had to have the boys fired up. I’m not saying that the girls dont surf well, they shred compared to us. But when the waves are pumping don’t you wanna see insane surfing from the best riders on the planet on the best waves of the contest!?! Have I snaked the political correctness line or is this a legit beef?

i thought it was peculiar JB, that would suck, hopefully the swell stays solid but its been a long run.
what do you think of Felipe’s post rnd 2 interview? I thought he was being a baby crying about an 8.0 sour grapes bro stop crying and shred

morning forecast shows the coldfront making it past us for tomorrow. North winds behind it, lower humidity, and MAYBE waves? I hate to get excited, but I am.

GoodMorning mi amigos….. just back from the keys….. OMG…. the first time I have left SRQ since I returned from CR….Water, water everywhere….can you say 30 cent boiled shrimp…..little me must have eaten pounds of those keywest lovelies. Took my dog – Bonny’s first road trip and hid out at an old forgotten Fish Camp….double dipped every day… Kayak the Gulf, Snorkel the Atlantic. Best part was hanging with my son (commercial diver) now get the certifications in Marathon to be a Dive Instructor….. oooo the perks!! Out on the boat as often as I wanted….and huka diving — a first for me. Nearly FREAKED OUT when the weight belt went on, but I bulled through the fear&panic and my son introduced me to reef beauty I had never know existed. A great trip, now I’m back and looking for waves : ))

Link to my friend Edwin Salem’s Surf lodge in Puerto Viejo (CR Caribe) Salsa Brava – an incredible man, one of the first to surf Mavericks, Alaska –the list goes on. If you happen to read Barbarian Days, by Finnegan — the Chapter on San Francisco -Mavericks — you’ll read a bit about his early days… The man is fascinating, incredible and unforgettable – if you want to surf Bravo and other SECRET places — he is the man….. if anyone is interested and wants to chatter w/me…drop me a note. Check out his link below –

We’re FB friends so if this link doesn’t work – perhaps go direct to FB…. also below is a vid of Brown -a PV local- surfing Salsa…..knowing about the coral crater pit underneath & where quite a few gringo’s have been shredded, or had leashes get tangled and then held down….I do think talking and hanging w/Edwin prior to the ride is smart.
December through March is biggest, then late June through august but is not as big. Some years like this one it goes all the way through.

Evy do you have a pic of the board?

I may be able to start going on surf trips again so who knows? I would love to surf salsa at 4-6ft not too big.

Bfisch agree kellys wave I thought was an 8 only cause he had to get back up

PS… if anyone goes to Salsa (Puerto Viejo) I left behind a surfboard – a beautiful one of a kind gun… the most beautiful piece of art/board..I believe Juan Rodriquez (One World Surf) ever made – a 3 stringer he once used in Rincon…. the fricking Xhusband will not make any effort to get this board back to me…. I can NOT forget this board…. even if I just look at it for the rest of my life…. IF ANY ONE GOES TO THE CARIBE…. I will pay for them to bring this treasure back….I don’t miss the X….but this board….I’m not a material girl…..but this board…. it has my heart…. so IF any of you guys get to Salsa….and could bring my board back to me… I will truly pay for your efforts & the cost.
and Micah –hope I haven’t taken advantage here … just that Edwin is one of a kind and the experience would be soo terrific for any of my friends here…. and that board… I want that board back : ))))

Worst most inconsistant judging that I’ve ever witnessed in a CT event. Love the waves, hate this contest…

  8. evy alland

Dang – no pic of the board…BUT… if I take a photo of Juan’s Business card ( he’s pictured surfing w/ the board) it may be enough to give you an idea….I can also get the specs from Juan…hummm, I can also mail you the business card. Below an article about the area… I think it was recently published…the man you want to speak w/ is Edwin as I mentioned in the above posts ( I have his number, if you want, but you can contact Salem @ FB at the above link – be sure to tell him you’re my friend –best secret places–4 you!!!)

    Rain w/no wave…..sigh
wall board rack broke middle of the night.. long board came tumbling down… praise Neptune it landed on the futon and not the hard tile floor – no dings….

  10. evy alland

ok so the only way I can figure to get waves is to take my board to get the dings fixed. Thought I repaired my surf wall rack – WRONG – this time when the longboard came down …it was ugly. So maybe this is what we need to get some waves…. my fav. board in the shop…I am soo cranky…wave-drought
