La Isla Nena gets fun waves!

La Isla Nena gets fun waves!

My sister in law
was in town over the holidays and took my kids for a weekend. Me and the Mrs headed out to Vieques for a long weekend where I was scheduled to give a public discourse in the local congregation on Sunday. We had met tons of really cool friends from Vieques and they were waiting for us with amazing hospitality when we arrived. It was our first time on the island. We found some super fun waves, got to check out the terrain and go snorkeling. More on our trip below.

A hour and a half ferry ride in often rough conditions is the way to reach Vieques, costs a couple of dollars.

It only takes 15 minutes to get from the N coast on the Atlantic to the south coast on the Caribbean. Lots of potential.

I did not surf a right the entire trip, all lefts.

Swack.

Nice line.

Nicholas sizing up the left wall, while I paddle out. The short period wave comes from deep water and peels along a shallow but not too shallow reef, 2-3ft deep where he’s surfing.

Secret Cove.

Secret Cove. On the best Caribbean side hurricane swells this cove will break with a right along the inside of the bay.

I thought I was in a Corona commercial.

Italians in the kitchen post surf. No carbonara left by hungry surfers. Food was kind of scarce.
