4pm Update: FLORIDA: Todo el mundo para el area este! Window has expanded a bit for the weekend warriors. Tomorrow: Solid surf cleaning up by late Thursday for the EC. Big, drifty waves. Boardwalk and RC's will probably see double O. By Friday it's gotten smaller and cleaner still head high plus and classic with winds STR8 offshore. Saturday waist high leftovers but still fun. Sunday thigh high. Next week strong NE winds build across FL. I am out, see ya next Tuesday 9/7. Don't know if I will be able to update. Maybe a tweet or two. Enjoy, be safe driving and surfing. Feel free to post your reports in the comments section.
7am Wed 9/1: I've got nothing this am other than to say the lower humidity and strong breeze yesterday afternoon was awesome. Check back this afternoon 5ish and I will post an updated take on the whole earl/ec situation. gracias.
They are probably going to be w/o power for days. 500 people stranded at SJU. I saw boogie boarders on baynews9 surfing Condado! Condado doesn't even get waves. They let the whole country go home at noon yesterday and it ended in total gridlock. Way to go... Earl now stalking the Bahamas. Here's what you came here to find out: There is going to be a window of good surf from Thursday (maybe not DP but during the day) until Friday night of good surf on the EC. By Saturday it looks like the swell will be gone. So if you want good waves you have to hit that Thursday/Friday window. WFL Gulf stays flat.Puerto Rico Vacations for Every Budget.

Looks like you guys who went over got fun surf on Saturday. The pattern change was slow to develop and the wind stayed off of it for awhile. This am the pattern has dug in more and the winds on the EC are 10 plus and getting stronger. Looks a lot choppier than yesterday. Lots of guys will surf that but for the rest it becomes a wait until the wind goes offshore. This is going to happen on Thursday and Friday this week. EC will see 4-6ft clean swell and NW to W winds late in the week once Earl moves north of Florida. So try and go east late week. PR has huge surf today. La Ocho is as big as I've ever seen it breaking all the way across Escambrón. They are about to come under Earl's influence with winds clocking hard NW to S over the next day or two. They are also under a hurricane watch so Earl is a little too close for comfort for the NLI's down there. WFL Gulf has got nada, nada, nada. The Rays played a great game last night with DJ Drama's blast in the 10th producing a walk off. Big game tonight at the Trop to finish off the series. Go Rays! Need a fish for Florida waves? Check out the Bat Macro below.

Saturday update in the comments...
Isint the sun supposed to be out? Pattern change to heavy east flow coming and flat this morning. And who know when we will get waves again? Probably going to have to be something tropical and the ATL has all the tropical systems right now. PR getting the goods this am as swell is hitting with light winds. Next week when all the pics come back your gonna see some sickness and a lot of pros down there... Stinks to be here on the sideline. Life on the GC. Time to break out the fishin pole. Go Rays!

Ya viene boricua, que te ponga redy!

Weekend Outlook: Really bad timing for the EC as Danielle's swell will meet heavy 20knt onshore winds. This will bring 6ft plus choppy waves, lots of rips and beach erosion to the EC this weekend. If you like surfing those kind of waves then head on over. The east flow on the gulf means good beach fishing and very flat conditions with cooler breezy WX in store for us... yes.
Hurricane Danielle Surf Forecast for Puerto Rico: Danielle is going to blow up the ATL. Not only will she bring her own swell but the gradient squeeze between her and the high will light up 1000's of miles of open ocean and send a solid NE swell to the Bahamas, Florida, the Caribbean and PR. PR is pretty flat right now. The first bit of powerful ENE swell will hit Friday am. Looks chest to head high in Isabela and waist to chest down in Rincón. Saturday more swell fills in. Chest to head high in Rincón but head high plus on the the N Coast all this meeting light E trades. Sunday the swell peaks, double overhead at Middles and head high to 2' overhead around the corner in Rincón. The swell stays solid on Monday, still head high plus with SE trades and then finally dropping on Tuesday, waist to chest high with SE winds. Looks like a really fun swell pa' la isla entera.

The best spots could have a fun wave this morning. Looks knee high maybe plus here in St Pete. Yesterday's forecast gets copied for today. I think it will be the same deal. Best chance incoming, gettting real small with the outgoing after 2pm. East flow and flatspell starts tomorrow. PR already seeing swell on the North coast this am. Check comoestaeso.com for that. Anybody got shots from the Nokomis barrel fest yesterday? We'd love to see em'.
Wed 7am Knee to thigh in St Pete this morning. Buoys are still 4-5ft and not quite so short period as yesterday. Could be a fun wave somewhere today. If I was going to surf I would look at that incoming tide around 10 or 11am. Hopefully it does not peter out too quick. After high tide(2pmish) the swell will back off slowly with the outgoing tide this afternoon and go back to 1ft or flat. A tweet from the beach coming later, have a good day. Click on the button that says "older entries" to see yesterday's pics.
Tuesday 8pm: I would like to apologize to any students I cheesed off with my comments about them missing waves on the first day back to school. I just found the irony amazing and couldn't back away from it. As it is, check out the shots you did not miss much(more shots below). Thanks to Ryppio for grabbing the cam. The surf today could be described in 2 words: Low Qual. TD 5 was better. So you didn't miss much and I hope you scored some good waves after classes. The ahh errr... seasoned gulf coaster crew dropped the kids off for their first day of Kindergarten, took the wife for breky to celebrate and then hit the waves with a light crowd for a few hours. It was fun... I guess... Surfing is always fun even when the waves are not good. I made the mistake of thinking the aura demographic was beyond the school years... My bad. Site blowing up and gracias to everybody who checks in. Should be some leftovers mañana. Paz y amor a todo el mundo...
Lots of good comments way below.
7am: We got waves. Buoys are picking up and there some choppy waves from the SW at the beach now. Expect building surf today with leftovers for Wednesday. Watch out for flooded streets. 3.5 inches of rain have fallen in St Pete during the last 36hrs. have fun. If you get back from the beach you can post a report in the comments. I should have an update later in the form of a tweet at the bottom of this page.
Tuesday: waist high and choppy, a chest high choppy peak possible at best spots this afternoon. Wednesday: Knee to occ waist high choppy leftovers.

Monday Night Surf Forecast for Puerto Rico: Danielle is going to blow up the ATL.
1pm UPDATER knee high waves out there. Longboardable but thats about it. Tomorrow should be better.
Some junky knee high waves on local beach today. Maybe bigger elsewhere but I doubt it buoy is only 2ft as of now. Very rainy last night and over 2 inches fell here in St Pete. There is a 1009mb low in the gulf that will strengthen and torque a little bit so all you kids will go back to school with waves at the beach... Come on you can't skip the first day of school to go surfing. Hahaha. Respect your elders. Tuesday will be 'ol fart surfing day'. Looks waist high from the SW and choppy on Tuesday as that low starts to move N. Still a bump left for Wednesday: knee to thigh. Kids can surf after school. Your teacher would have to be big jerk to give you homework on the first day. Too funny, I can never remember surf on back to school day.

Ahhh el Atlantico... starting to come to life. Looks like a pattern change in the long run.. Seems a little early but tons of east flow starting Friday. Kinda back door front looking as the whole ATL gets NE wind later in the period. Maybe we will get cooler breezy WX here in FL. Too bad the EC is going to be all choppy for this next swell. PR is gonna get the goods. East swell will go NE and be met by light SE winds so Next weekend looks real good down on the Isla del Encanto.
Have a good one!

Waking up to heavy rain here in St Pete this Sunday am. 6 tenths on the ground already. The little bump we had last night has died back down, could bump up again late today but only 1ft. Troughy WX sticks around and there will be a knee to possibly thigh high wave late Monday into Tuesday as the kids go back to school. By next weekend a solid swell from a tropical cyclone will hit the EC. Before you go and book your hotel keep in mind it looks like a devil wind with 15knt onshores by Sunday. Keep an eye on it.

Sat 4pm: Yesterday I took my wife's family from Italy to Egmont. On the way out we rolled accross those shoals off Ft Desoto and there was this 1ft perfect longboardable bowl breaking out there 1/2mile offshore. Wish I had my 9'6. Time to go to the beach again and it's 1/2ft to 1ft and glassy. perfect size for tiny groms... on it.
No real waves in site.
Friday 8/20: Weak W flow. At some point it is supposed to dig in a bit and maybe bump the 1ft up to 2ft but it really doesn't look even that strong. More continued flatness. I will update if that changes. See you at the Compound tonight!
Check out the Compound Friday Night! New boards up to 50% off, tons of boards for under $300. Sale tee's $7, shorts $15, jeans $20, purses $15, tons of deals and good times.
8/18 surf forecast: The rest of the week looks really flat with calm to variable winds and daily sea-breezes. The weekend looks really flat also. Next week looks more interesting with a potent trough digging into the SE and possibly giving us a gradient and a small wave around back to school day. Also, tropical activity will be approaching the Leeward islands next week so there will be more to watch. Right now the WX is boring and we just have the Rays to watch though Smyrna does look fun this morning with half the crowd that was on it yesterday. Looks waist high and glassy over there, maybe chest high peak at the inlet. Have a good day.
Check out the Compound for all your back to school needs! They also have Merricks, JS and others surfboards for $100 off. Plus aspiring pro Tayler Brothers has a bunch of his used rip sticks in the Compound for sale so check those out. El Caribe ayer

Tues 8/17 Woah what a game last night. The Rays are just sick and back in first. That team is so young and scrappy, what's not to like? Tiny line this am with a bunched of horned up gulfsters grabbing their LB's and running west. Out east NSI had a mob at 7am this morning enjoying the chest high glass over there and down in el Caribe they are getting inconsistent chest high sets at Jobos. It's mid-August and the surfers are feeling it whether conditions are favorable or not. have a good day.

Monday 6am UPDATER: I hate to be a pessimist but I just don't see it happening. TD5 the Redux is too far away for it's tiny, weak wind field. The buoy's did not come up over night and the little storm is gradually moving away. It's probably a lack of time and transportation that has us looking in the wrong direction for some wave action this week. I've been unsuccessfully doing the math: 2.5hrs over, in the water by 7, 3 hours surf, 2.5hrs home, working by....errrr not gonna happen. EC swell is bumping up. One change in the forecast with TD5 the redux moving away the winds don't look that offshore for the EC. Maybe in the am and then light onshore in the afternoon. Tuesday could see some onshores over there or it may just be light to calm winds. They do have swell. I think for us in WFL it's another case of 1ft is 1ft is 1ft. In other words, the surf here will not get bigger than 1ft. Wish I had better news but I still see very low probs for us to get any ridable waves from the low pressure formerly known as TD5 in the gulf. I hope I'm wrong. Have a good Monday. Rays have a tough battle with Texas at the Trop starting tonight. Go Rays!

TD 5 was great little storm for us. Way better than that slacker Alex. Some of the better spots may have been windy but some other spots got days of good surf off that storm and then even more days of lingering grom, LB waves. Looks like that has finally wound down now. The surf is even smaller today than yesterday. The fam surfed some knee high waves yesterday that were good for the kids. The water was like 89 and full of seaweed and ithchies so that was not cool. Still good times. Your wondering if TD 5 is gonna kick up the surf again. It will keep the winds offshore on the EC as they see a fun swell Monday and Tuesday. If you are not working you really need to go. Volusia is going to go off again, chest high glass. Surf looks to stay small for the gulf 1 ft range. I give TD5 the redux a 30-70 shot at producing waist high plus surf for us. Troughy WX sticks around all week so keep an eye on it we will. The question is will it be 1ft all week or will it ever bump up bigger that that?Check out the Compound for all your back to school needs! They also have Merricks, JS and others surfboards for $100 off. Plus aspiring pro Tayler Brothers has a bunch of his used rip sticks in the Compound for sale so check those out.
